Jason,
The Hudson Natural Open was first held in 1989 in the local High school. A couple of years went by using that venue and then it was moved to the Hudson House Inn in Hudson, WI. Same town, different building.

I was basically talked into holding the Hudson Natural Open by our State Chair. (Bruce Sullivan) Yes, there are days when I cuss him for this.

For many years we gave out custom made, laser engraved plaques for the awards. We would use types of wood that were not the usual Walnut that you usually get. Next we went to custom made trophies that were basically a metal barbell suspended on tiny lifting stands that were mounted to a nice wooden base. The barbells were stainless steel with machined anodized weights on each end.
In recent years we have gone with Neils Anderson Sculptures as the awards. Best lifter awards are given out as well.

The Border Battle trophy was brought into the mix because of requests from lifters. We are right on the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin, (I live on the right side of the border...... Land of the Green Bay Packers) so we get lots of lifters from both states. It was a nice addition to the meet. We did charge a fee for this in the beginning, but since have dropped the fee. It's automatic. Minnesota and Wisconsin have both won this award. It is a traveling trophy.

We offer divisions that include Women's Open, Teen Women, Master Women, Men's Open, Teen Men, Master Men 40-49, Master Men 50+, and have now added a RAW division. We do limit the number of lifters that can lift in this meet to keep the quality of the meet at a controlable and enjoyable level. In the beginning of this meet we also had a two man deadlift competition for a couple of years. It was fun, but needed to be eliminated because of time and growth of the main competition.
