Regina,

You propose a fair question and the answer is pretty simple- we must put on more local meets for the local lifters.

Over the last three years, my volunteer efforts have been focused on national activities for USAPL- hosting the Men's Masters in 2005, American Open in 2006, this year's IPF Masters Worlds and helping to coordinbate our merchandise program at National meets. I have strayed away from putting on local meets in CA.

My absence, along with another volunteer, Jason Burnell, taking a break from putting on meets, has put the responsibity square on the shoulders of our State Chair, Mike Wolmesdorf. And to be honest, its been an unfair burden on him. The number of USAPL meets in CA are down and consequetly, so are the membership numbers.

I pledged to Mike that I would become re-engaged and have since committed to directing two local meets this year and I intend to direct two local/state meets in 2009. Combined with Mike's efforts, and possibly getting Jason back into the mix is some capacity, we will better serve our membership in CA and get the numbers up.

As you know, lifters just want to lift in well run meets close to their home, typically within 150 miles.

In the Marketing Committee report that I am submitting to the NGB, the #1 call to action to each NGB member is this: "Help to put on one ADDITIONAL local meet in your state over the next twelve months".

If each state organziation commits to this, our membership numbers will grow and the demographics will change.

Lance
