"In reading all the posts I see about as many compliments as complaints about The Jury/& Referees"

My point wasn't so much about good or bad refs; moreso that the jury is fairly worthless in most of the meets I've seen. A couple of people have since commented that they had an experience where the jury actually did something.

"so may I suggest this.
Those of you that may already be State Referees, and meet the requirements, ask your State Chair if you can be recommended to take The National Referee Exam. If it is OKd by the State Chair"

I've already been asked to take the National Ref test....Speaking only for myself, won't happen this year for two reasons:

1) 2008 is the Year of Jason the Selfish Bastard. With a few exceptions powerlifting in 2008 is all about me for me. No meets directed, as little reffing as possible and no watching any other men pee.

2) Actually, number one about covers it.

"From what I read here it should be a cake walk."

In what post and from what person did you read that? I can't find where anyone said that.

" Then you get on the platform with the other referees and do your best to be fair."

Don't all refs, or at least most, try that?

"Why some have bragged about knowing the rulebook forward and backwards with eyes like a hawk."

Hmmm.... again, I haven't seen anyone say that in this thread. What post and who said that?

If you don't like what I said about the jury being worthless, please argue that point. If you don't like what I said about the bounce-and-go bench press, show me where I was wrong.

Writing about things that nobody said and then issuing a challenge to take the referees test makes very little sense. It just makes you look thin skinned. In other words, don't read things into what is said that isn't said. I know several National refs and I know they all work hard - volunteering time and energy at local, world and National meets. Some of my good friends and people I consider mentors are National refs.

That still doesn't make the jury a great concept.
As I said before, there isn't much a jury does that isn't taken care of at the local and state level by a head ref and/or a meet director.

For example - in a post above, someone pointed out that the jury had to inform a ref about the sleeveless erector shirt being legal.

At one of our meets a while back, we had a National ref do a similar thing with a duct taped shin. Lance pulled out the IPF rule book and showed him the updates. Problem solved and it didn't take a jury to fix the problem.
