I won't ever forget the first time I met him. It was at the Bench Nationals in Cleveland, Ohio. I had always been strong, and had done a few little meets, but had never been to a national meet before with the strict lifting like we have in the USAPL. I went to the Titan table, and Pete Sr. was there. I told him I didn't know much about bench shirts, that the one I had was from his competitor. Pete spent the next 30 to 40 minutes explaining Titans shirt to me, measuring me for a proper fit, and giving me tips on bench shirts. He never tried to sell me his shirt, he just wanted me to know the differences so If I chose to order one of his shirts later, I would get the right size. I did try a Titan shirt later that year, and my bench jumped 40 pounds at my first meet. That was great, but the thing that has always stuck with me was the fact that this man cared enough about me as a newcomer to help me. He loved the sport, and the people he met. I have made the Master's World Bench Team 3 times now, and have worn Titan ever since that day. If you would tell me today that there is a new shirt out there that would give me 20 more pounds on my bench, I would not wear it. Pete Sr. and Pete Jr. have been loyal to me through the years. To me, loyalty is not something you can buy, it has to be earned. Pete has more than earned that from me. I will miss talking with him. Pete Jr. and the family will be in my prayers.
