1) just give it a whirl - if you wait until you are "ready" you'll never go because we are all never as strong as we'd like to be! Just get in and get your feet wet.

2) Learn the rules and commands. Check out the online rule book.

3) If possible hook up with a couple of veteran lifters and/or referees so you can get used to meet conditions.

4) If possible, train with a couple of people who are at your strength level and a couple that are stronger than you. The guys at your level will push you and the stronger guys will give you something to shoot for.

5) Pass them all up! lol

5) Have fun.

(yes, I realize that I used number 5 twice but a top 5 just sounds better than a top 6)
