In Response To: Re: Why two forums? (Jim Roberts)

:Hey Jason,
:Was not attacking your forum. Was responding to :another posters comment which was made in jest. :And it was in no way intended to suggest that Fed :dollars (or cents) was funding it.

Jim,
I didn't take it as an attack but I did want to point out that both forums are volunteer efforts and are not supported by fed dollars.

: In fact, I like your forum. I have noted :problems on the other and am not too happy that :messages are not immediately posted.

That is a double edged sword. While I do not agree with Brad on many things, I understand his reason for doing it. I don't necessarily agree with him ,mind you, but I understand. At times the forums can fill up with ugly arguments and if you are not online things can spiral out of control before the moderators can well, moderate. His solution allows him to preview the posts before they go up and "nip" some things in the bud.

The downside of that is that it can certainly interrupt the "flow" of convesations and definitely can give the impression that posts are screened or filtered.

:Is there concern about censorship that caused :this forum to come into existance? You have :dedicated and well meaning folks working over :there as well.

Yes and no. I'm not a moderator there so I have no "proof" of censorship however, people have mentioned that posts they tried to put up either never went up or went up much later or didnt go up until the discussion was over, etc.

However, we must realize that that is Brad's board and he can run it however he pleases. On the other hand, people that are not happy with it can go elsewhere. That is pretty much what we've done here.

:It is important though, that dollars are spent :with considerstion to maximizing the most :efficent benefits of the org (or in this cas, the :forum)to the intended goup (or in this case) your :membership. Are you not concerned that :information is not going to be evenly distributed?

That has been a concern lately. A few people have posted on one or the other. I don't think it will be a problem as the board grows but I'll watch it.

:Perhaps a link could be provided on both pages. :They can co-exist as the previous poster :suggested. If there is already a link..., my :oversite.

There is a link to both on the USAPL site. I do not expect a link to this board to go up on the other one, however.

:It seems like you have a tug of war going on here etween the sites now that this matter is being :discussed. Is there a allegiance or a following :of supporters who will go to one site or the :other?

Probably.

:I think it would be counter productive to the :Fed if camps are being formed and an atmosphere :of us against them existed or was being fostered.

Unfortunaltely, camps were formed long ago and there has been something of an us vs them atmosphere for a long time. For the most part, some us us work together pretty well.

: I would encourage that everyone get along and :enjoy the one common thing that bounds us and :that is lifting and furthering the effort to :increase the visability. Your site does that, but :how is it affecting the line of communication?

It is another avenue.

:I actually came across this forum by a link :posted by someone on the other site which was :included in a response.

There have been ads in PLUSA and we are considering a other ways to let people know we are here.

:Since then, I have noted that some try to post to oth sites, and what ensues is a smattering of :responses that don't make any sense. Unless you :flip back and forth between the sites. Therefore :the suggestion to have a link on both sites.

"There is some concern expressed by some of the membership as to who is running for Athlete's Rep and EC. No one seems to know who the candidates are for the EC. Is it too soon to know? Have they been announced? Members in my state are asking and we can't give them an answer. Yes..., the bios have been posted over on the other site and the names known for Athlete's Reps. A question that has not been answered is how the votes are to be submitted. I have not checked the home page for the Fed, but if anyone could be an enabler to one lazy fool, I would appreciate it."

I'm on it. I just sent an email to Larry Maile. Maybe he can help us figure it out. I'm off to Easter Dinner soon and Larry probably is too so we may not hear from him for a day or so but as soon as I find out I'll let you know.

:Thank you Jason for taking the time to explain everything to me and the readers of your forum. Perhaps the membership and other visitors like me will now have a better understanding how the two forums came into being and will look to both when seeking information. Hopefully, posters will make an effort to post pertinent information on both to get the message out to all. Also, in closing, would you agree that issues concerning open lines of communication should be addressed at the upcoming NGB meeting? "

Could be a good idea. However, we just got the newsletter back and that was a good first step. In the old days of Clean Power - there were ballots and notices in the magazine. That might be a good place to start.

"It is important that all state chairs hold at least an annual meeting and stay in contact with their members. And they can only do their job if they are getting up to date information. Not sure how that is done now, but you will find that if everyone is kept informed with the same information, things run much smoother."

Both the newsletter and forums, as well as the USAPL site and the various state websites are good sources for information. One step we could do is to share info between state sites.

"Keep up the great work,

Thanks and Happy Easter.

Regards,
