no way you can see the hip joint(which is on your side,hence side judge) in my opinion.

top surface of the legs at the hip joint is lower than the top of the knees.

The squat is so subjective to a persons/judges opinion,
The press call is the same way,some refs held you for two seconds the book said until motionless.

Everyone has there interpretation of the rule.I know several folks who say they can see the hip joint from the front.

The wording of the rule needs to be looked at.
