Al,

The key here is that you've said, "if it's close give the white." That isn't what is happening. If the side judges are throwing whites and the head ref is throwing a red for depth there is a problem with that ref - especially if it's on a consistent basis.

Everybody makes mistakes but when it happens over and over there is a problem.
