Dennis Brady, who is a great another great ref, uses the philosophy that the decision to throw a red light should be obvious and instantaneous. If you need to think about it for even a split second, then the benefit of doubt is given to the lifter and the lift is good.

This type of approach limits the amount of nitpicking, IMHO.
