A fellow lifter who has sworn off the USAPL for another organization, may have put it best. We seem to be looking for "perfect lifting" not "power lifting".

There will be small deviances in the attempt of a lift, but if they are negligible at best and do not aide the lifter in any way, what is the point of harping on these otherwise seemingly innocent items. I am not talking about squat depth or bench pause or deadlift lockout, ALL important factors in the execution of a proper attempt.

But the insignificant knee lockout prior to squatting or after completing an easy squat and "popping it up" and then relaxing the knees ever so slightly, foot wiggle in the bench, etc, do nothing to help the lifter complete the lift. Most of the experienced lifters/judges can tell the basic difference between a proper lift and an illegal one. It is when judges go looking for micro infractions that are indectible by almost all of the other lifters and the audience that the line may have been crossed.

I am in not saying the rules should be changed, just how they are interpreted.
