Vans legal?? *LINK*

I need a new pair of sneakers to lift in. I have always worn Chucks, but want to try something new. I have worn Vans as sneakers both to skate in and general usage. Always thought Vans have great support, but are they legal?
They are made for skateboarding which some would say is an outdoor sport, yet there are plenty of skate parks inside.
