Some people will say that powerlifting is shrinking in popularity and we are just feeling that.

I don't agree with that at all. WABDL draws a lot of lifters, especially in Sac and Reno out here in the West. What to they offer fun meets that cater to there lifters desires. While many of us consider powerlifting to be about 3 lifts for a total - it appears that a great many people also want to do just one lift. In the end, if it get's people to try the sport, it's not a bad thing.

Similarly APF and AAU have had some large meets here in Cal. So we need to learn some things from their examples. Obviously some things don't apply but there are always things we can learn from others.

Those of us that have been to great USAPL meets and think a certain way perhaps need to shift our emphasis. What's the biggest meet of the year? Looks like Bench Nationals is up there at or near the top every year.

Another thing that perhaps I was wrong about is the number of divisions. When I started putting on meets I cut the divisions way down to increase the competition at the local/state meets. In a pure sense that had to be a good thing, right? Well, to a "purist" like me it seemed like the best thing however lifters do tend to go to feds/meets that offer the divisions they want.

I've always looked at meets in the sense of duplicating/simulating the feel of a bigger meet (Nationals etc) but not everyone feels the same way - Rich Peters figured that out a long time ago. Give the people what they want.
