Masters Worlds - Thanks to ALL!

Wow. What a week! What a year! To begin, being involved with this IPF world championships was an incredible experience. I am so happy, and relieved, to hear that many of our attendee enjoyed their experience in Palm Springs. I truly appreciate the kind words and comments to me but it is so important to recognize that the success of this championship was the result of the collective TEAM effort of some of the best talent that USA Powerlifting has to offer from all over the U.S.

A few have been acknowledged and it is so important to note that many, many very generous individuals from throughout the US made such significant contributions. I am very grateful to ALL of you. If I may, I would like to add and express my sincere appreciation to Joe & Cathy Marksteiner for providing so much support in so many ways. To Robert Keller who was tremendously generous with his time and knowledge. Whenever I have worked with Robert and I have a question or encounter a problem, Robert always responds with, “I’ll take care of it”. Great thanks to Johnny Graham who supported me every step of the way. Dan Guadreau and Tony Cardella led an outstanding platform team and thanks to Eliot Feldman for serving as our Facilities Manager.

And I must express my deep appreciation and SPECIAL THANKS to our people here in California. I am so proud and grateful to each and every one of them who so generously donated so much of their time and energy in our attempt to host the best IPF world championship we could. In particular, to two guys who helped me load up and unload a 20 ft. truck filled with close to 4 tons of equipment and weights- John Planas and Adam Johnson. My thanks to our webmaster Jason Burnell. I think the web site speaks for itself and once again demonstrates how talented Jason is. He took our web site to the next level. To my friends who helped at the scoring table- Hung Pham and Melody Jordan. And my sincere heartfelt thanks to Barbara Behm who supported me personally in so many ways, coordinated all of the volunteers throughout the week and served as my second right hand during times when I needed three or four hands.

Finally, I would like to thank all of our sponsors who, through their contributions, provided us the needed resources to present a championship of this size and standard. We could not do it without their generous support. Thanks to CON-CRET, Titan Support Systems, Basquiat Vinyards of California, CSS Photo Design, ER Equipment, Ivanko Barbell, Powerlifting USA Magazine, Quest Nutrition, House of Pain Ironwear, Lifters Athletic Wear, Otton, Vallot & Co. and last but not least, the Hilton Palm Springs and the Palm Springs Convention Center who served as wonderful hosts for the week.

In closing, congratulations to all of our Team USA members, world champions and new world record holders. It always begins and ends with the lifters and I was happy to hear that many of them enjoyed their experience.

We were fortunate to have great press all week. The CBS affiliate covered the event on the 5 and 6 PM newscast on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 and the Desert Sun provided photo coverage throughout the week. Below are the links to their online galleries:
