Sherm:
The meet was run under IPF rules which in this case penalized lifters becuase only 7 of them showed up to compete.
Had 14 lifters shown up there could have been more time. There is NO COMPENSATORY time added for 7 lifters.........simply put, screw the lifter.
The rules must be changed so that lifters, who have trained hard and spent lots of money to get to the Nationals, have TIME to PERFORM at their maximum and not told, WE HAVE TO RUSH TO GET YOU DONE......THERE ARE ONLY SEVEN OF YOU, SO HURRY UP.
Case in point: Steve Mann, an experienced lifter, took three squats within about 17 or 18 minutes, and then had probably about 20 to 25 minutes from his last squat till his first bench, and he had to:
1. Recover from a missed squat,
2. Get his wraps and suit off.
3. Do some fast bench warmups,
4. Put his shirt on and perhaps finish warming up,
5. Do an opening attempt, without having time toreconsider lowering his opener, because that
HAD to be done five minutes before his flight
started.
Think about it: DOES THE TAIL WAG THE DOG, OR DOES THE DOG WAG ITS TAIL.
Perhaps its time to remember this is a game that we all play because we love it.
Just my two cents.
