Harriet,
You are THE WOMAN!! This sport is so great becase it isn't limited by age, weight (we have many weight classes), or height. You are such an excellent example this. You, oh Master Champion, proudly tell us your age when you had this injury, the way you approached the rehab and your success in listening to your body to continue to be an active, successful athlete. Is it possible that women in weightlifting, especially competitive weightlighting, are something of an anomoly to orthaepedic surgeons? The popular response is "Stop doing ... (whatever you were doing)." However, would this be the advice to someone with arthritis in the knees? "Stop walking, doing stairs, etc." Yours is a voice of common sense for the athlete.
As for myself, my first knee surgery (2 years before arthroscopy became available) left me with no medial meniscus. The femur and tibia aren't parallel to each other. Rather, they are slanted, with the bones almost touching on the medial side of the leg. I attribute powerlifting, specifically squats, for enabling me to continue to do everyday things, playing raquetball (lol). You go girl.
