I hope you don't mind my intrusion to your conversation because I have been in this sport for only 3 years, it is due to the reception my lifter kids and I have been given by folks like Kevin, Liz, Dean, Ryan, Roger and Lea only to name just a few here in Washington . I got into it as a lark with a couple of my kids and we have grown ever since. The free flow of help has been immeasurable. That is really key to making it as fun as it has been.
Maybe getting more people into it revolves around how the word can get out locally. Some of the gyms have recruited people and I do my part for myself and our high school kids, but, as my old sport of track and field has had to do, the sport simply has to find a way to sell itself. Lifters are a pretty tight group and it isn't necessarily a mainstream sport, but that may be the draw to many younger folks. Arnold was good because of his "selling" skills, but the picture of powerlifters isn't the same.
Maybe the fraternity needs to do some more "advertising" about what it can offer others. As an old guy I can see what it does for aging and am amazed what these old guys can do.
Also, I have watched a meet by another fed and I think USAPL is a much more solid approach to the scene of strength sports. Their goals of Olympic involvement should continue.

I always look at the and of the school year with not only a yippee, but what do I need to change for next year. My whole approach will take on a new look this year for the kids. They all know me well enough to know it will be different, but that is because of what I have learned.

My goal is not to attack anyone - just continue having as much fun as I have been.

Thanks
Steve Slavens
