2006 USAPL American Open - Palm Springs, CA 12/2-3 *PIC*

All interested athletes and officials are invited to attend the 2006 USAPL American Open to be held at the Palm Springs Convention Center on December 2-3. The American Open is open to ALL current USAPL members in good standing (membership applications will be available at weigh-in) who have NOT obtained an elite USAPL total in the last 3 years in any weight class. GUEST lifter spots are available for elite-level lifters to lift at this championship. No qualifying total or contest is required to enter this championship.

There will also be the American Open Bench Press Invitational limited to 30 entries- men & women which will be held in a special session beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.

The Palm Springs Convention Center reopened in the fall of 2005 after a $32.3 million dollar expansion. The new 261,000 square foot facility now combines the best services & staff with a world-class setting, and a state-of-the-art building. This PSCC and the Hilton shall also serve as the host venues for the 2008 IPF Masters World Powerlifting Championships.

The Hilton Palm Springs shall serve as the official meet hotel. The group rate for this meet is $99 per night, a tremendous value. This Hilton Resort hotel sits on a 7-acre site studded with palm trees and lush landscaping located only 1.5 miles from the Palm Springs International Airport. A hotel courtesy shuttle is available to and from the airport. Guestrooms are elegantly appointed and offer Venetian shutters leading out to the balcony or patio with city and mountain views. The recreational amenities at the Hilton Palm Springs Resort hotel also provide superior choices including the heated outdoor swimming pool or the exercise room. Golf and Tennis are nearby and the concierge will be pleased to arrange guest reservations.

Many local attractions near the Hilton Palm Springs Resort hotel include the new Spa Casino, open 24-hours for your enjoyment, the Desert Museum, art galleries, chic shops and boutiques, sidewalk cafes, nightclubs and theatres. All are within walking distance of the hotel. The Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is nearby – within two miles - and has direct service via Alaska, American, America West, Continental, Delta, Horizon and United airlines.

The Palm Springs Convention Center and the Hilton shall also serve as the host venues for the 2008 IPF Masters World Powerlifting Championships.
