I do think confronting ignorance and hostility is often necessary. There is an old proverb that goes something like this:

"The only thing evil need to prosper is for good people to say nothing."

However Jason is right too. There must come a time to ignore the negative people and proceed on ward doing what you can to improve the situation. Wisdom is the ability of choosing the right time to do the one or other. LOL Life is never simple!
