This is what doesn't make sense to me.

Meet directors, at least at the local level, are forced to write up the start time on the entries at a certain time, to accomodate the 2 hour rule, knowing full well that the likelihood of starting at that time is almost nil.

Given that we have a rules briefing and the start time has to be pushed back, should we then deny the lifters adequate warmup time? The answer to that can and should be no. Do we then tell them that because we had to give the rules briefing AND allow them to warm up that they can't set records? Again, the answer should only be no.

What are the choices left to us?
1) Give the rules briefing before weigh ins. Perhaps. However that might not go too well with lifters trying to make weight.

2) Pretend that this makes sense and just continue to write "lifting starts at 9:00" when we all know that won't happen and that forces all meets to start "late" which lifters love to talk about.

3) Append the start time with an "ish" Lifting starts at 9 ish"

4) Stay with me. This could actually work well for those of us "of color" and those in Hawaii. CP time and Island time are well accepted concepts.
However, I'm not too comfortable with the term of color as it implies that white people do not have color and white, pink and red are all colors as is Burnt Umber, according to Crayola. My only question here is, "what exactly is the color of unburnt umber?"

But I digress. I'm not trying to be difficult or start trouble with this but I can't see a way to make it work without some sort of change.

It's clear to me that there is a problem, albeit a seemingly minor one. I just feel that there has to be a better way to get the rules briefing in, allow lifters adequate warmup time, and preserve the record setting process without making the meet director feel dirty by forcing him (or her) to
"push the start time back."

I'm open to suggestions but I get the feeling that if we have to go through the IPF this could take forever and never get resolved.

I guess it's not a big deal if everyone is doing it... then again, if everyone else was jumping off a bridge.....
