Erin, I remember one reason I heard. I cant verify if it was true or not.
I was told it was the USA in fact that wanted the change--reason being that some felt at competitions they (USA) lifters felt the head referee was taking their sweet time in giving the press command while the bar layed on your chest while with other lifters the command was quick. Again,it was quite a long time ago and I cant remember all the facts.
