As a meet director I can give my point of view on this. Does it provide more funds? Yes but marginally... this is offset by the extra costs to administer, provide awards, etc.

It is also a very slippery slope. If you just add "one" more division why not two? ten? At some point your National meet becomes something that it was not meant to be and everyone walks away with an award and a division won. We lack compeition.

I can still remember one late night conversation (I still don't understand why lifters like to phone meet directors at midnight the day before the meet entry deadline)...

Lifter: "Is there anyone in the master 1 90 kg class?"

Me: "Looks like there are 3 people in that category. Should be a good battle"

Lifter: "What about the 100kg class or 82.5kg class?"

Me: "4 and 2 people right now"

Lifter: "Why don't you have 5 year classes for age? It's much harder to make weight as we get older and I don't want to enter a meet where I might not win".

Me: "Ummm... Competition is good. You'll be a better lifter even if you don't win."

Lifter: "No it's okay. Maybe I'll catch the next meet."
