REPORT: 2012 IDLE (International Dead Lift Entity) Championships......

SHW Dewey Humpitt took advantage of the unlimited hitching rule to post a deadlift of 1430 (650kg) at the 2012 World Haul Off contest in Pullett, Rhode Island, October 7th. Managing to get in three hitches during the course of the effort, he was awarded a bonus 15 kg for style points. (Five additional kilos per hitch).

Thai Sliders posted 460 kg (1013 lbs) in the womens’ heavyweight Oiled-Thigh division but her wrist straps broke at completion of a 470k attempt. Because of her extreme lay-back technique, the bar shot down her greased thighs and caromed into head judge and IDLE founder Will Tugwell, who fortunately was wearing hockey-goalie shin guards.

Only partially crippled, Mr. Tugwell asserted that his injuries were a small price to pay to see such lifting in the only Fed that is truly for the lifters and not encumbered with a lot of modern rules. “Hitching and oiled-thighs were part of the deadlift in the early days, and we are proud to have reinstated those practices in order to preserve the original intent of the old-timers and the integrity of the game,” said Tugwell.
