Jennie,

It is correct that they only way to qualify for an Open World team is at Open Nationals.

The reason for this it allows one to know who, and compete directly against their competition. There would be a distinct advantage for certain athletes to compete against a known number to make the team at another meet.

You are correct for other than Open World teams there are multiple qualifiers.

This is because some of these teams can not be filled with just one national meet.

In addition, many of these athletes compete at the open level as well as the junior or master level. This allows them to not have to go to multiple national level meets to quailify for these teams.
