I would be more than willing to present such a measure. We discussed similar changes at last years NGB meeting but took no action. One of the points is that we have too many divisions, too many ways to set records and give out far too many awards at meets. Are we competing for ribbons, or to set PRs and lift at a higher and higher level? Some meets give out over a hundred awards. The USAPL is not responsible for positive reenforcement. It is responsible for producing the highest level of competition possible. There will be winners and losers. Let's get used to having fewer "winners". Winning a division with one lifter is not a victory at all. Many lifters have left the USAPL for the sole purpose of breaking records or winning trophies in other federations. Lifters have told me that they compete in other feds because the trophies are better. A sword in a weak meet must mean more to them than competing at a tough National level USAPL meet. We have a type of award similar to the Olympics. It is what the award represents that is of import. It is sad that some lifters are award seekers and would make a choice based on such a desire.

Other lifters want to have lifts approved so that they can lift heavier, regardless of form or rules. Our officiating will be constantly upgraded, but it will never be altered to make lifters happy. Having lifters lift more weight does not make us a better federation. We are part of a worldwide organization and must adhere to the international standards. It may make some happy to know that the IPF talked in Miami about making changes to the officiating of the bench press, focusing on the pause. It will be interesting to see what happens. ER is presenting a new bench press saftey attachment at IPF Bench Worlds. If approved, this attachment, utilizing a standard ER rack, would prevent the bar from crashing back down on lifters.
