from IPF: WADA banned list 2007

Greetings and happy holidays to all: below is the link to the WADA banned substance list in effect Jan 1, 2007. All USAPL/NAPF/IPF lifters are responsible for compliance with this document. Like the rule book, "it is what it is" and violations (intentional or not) cost you more than a medal. Remember to declare any TUE's and medications, even over the counter, at weigh-ins. Contact the medical committee ASAP if you have concerns.

From the the doping panel, I am happy to report that we had 2 doping cases which have finalized judgement in favor of the lifter. In both cases, medical circumstances justified the medication detected and importantly, no performance edge was gained by use. The problem was with the TUE process. Official warnings were issued, however, as the protocol was not ideally followed in either case. This was done to educate both the lifter and member federations to prevent futher positives in avoidable cases.

These cases are critical to preserving the integrity of our sport as well as assuring our lifters that the IPF administration critically evaluates each and every positive "a" sample. In both cases, the overall picture did not make sense. We requested and received additional information and came to a sensible conclusion. The health of the lifter and the fairness of competition were both preserved and I thank all our volunteer members of the medical committee and doping panel for their dedication.

May Santa bring us all white lights and records in '07,
Chris Calvano MD PhD IPF Medical Committee and Doping Hearing Panel
