News from Frank Beeler
Went to Stanford University yesterday - Wednesday 2/18/09. This was the culmination of testing over the past two weeks. I have melanoma cancer that has apparently spread to a vertebrae, the liver, lungs and lymph system.
This started about 9 weeks earlier when I started having a backache. I attributed it to some new blood pressure and heart rhythm medications the Doctor had me start taking. It did not seem to directly affect my workouts except on the worst days. Even the Friday before I checked into emergency for the testing, I benched a raw 475 in my workout.
I have not drunk alcohol to any excess in years, never smoked nor drank coffee, and I assure you, I have never taken steroids or any type of illegal performance enhancing drugs. But growing up on the farm and many severe sunburns over the years is a suspected contributor. I did have a skin melanoma removed from my back 9/06, and my doctor tried sending me to a melanoma clinic at that time, but the insurance denied it…
At least I am at peace with whatever happens. My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ is with me. It is hard for many of you to understand that and may say, well whatever works for him... If you do not understand how I can be at peace, I urge you to attend a strong Christian Church and immerse yourself in study of the Bible.
I have met so many great people over the years and had great time at the National and World Championships. The great memories of winning 4 IPF Master bench titles, the world records, eases the pain of giving up a sport that I loved.
Also let his serve as official notice that I am withdrawing from the USA’s 2009 World Masters Bench Team. I was really looking forward to New Zealand.
Radiation treatments on the vertebrae start today, and chemotherapy tentatively starts in the next two weeks. Pain medications are helping me put up with the back pains.
Please pray for my family and me.
Love, Frank Beeler
