Scott,
You'll probably get a few different answers but here are a couple of ideas.

If it fits right and you just want to defunkify it - wash it in Woolite in cool water and let it drip drip or tumble on cool setting in the dryer.

If you want to tighten in up a bit, then wash it in warm or hot and toss it in the dryer for 15 minutes or so.

When I hand wash them - I get most of the water out buy rolling them up in a towel (kind of like a jelly roll) and then walking over the towel. That will get most of the water out without twisting or otherwise risking damage to the material or stitching.
