In Response To: Raw Unity Meet Proposal (Eric Talmant)

This has been coming up quite often already:

I am not aware of any of the guys that are in the top 5 in any of the weight classes having an IPF suspension.

Of course I will check against the IPF banned lifter list to make sure, but upon cursory inspection none of the names brought up red lights.

I also like the idea of a point system that will ultimately go towards a team title for the federation that accumulates the most points.

Drug testing will be discussed, but the decision will be made without emotion. I believe that as long as we do some testing, that the USAPL athletes will be in good standing for the meet. The key factor here for me is budget. I want to make sure we can test the amount of athletes that is appropriate while still covering our budget.

The good thing is that most of the guys that are in the top 5-7 already come from federations that drug test. As of right now, you truly are the exception if you are in the top 5 and come from a non-tested fed.

I have contacted the president of each of the 11 federations that currently offer raw lifting, so I am hoping to hear from them soon.

All current federation cards will be honored, and there will be no special invites. You either did your total in a raw meet in your respected federation or not. I will hold the line on this one.

More than likely, we will be giving until the end of the calendar year 2007 for those interested to post a raw total. I do not want to rush any aspect in the planning of this meet, because I am going to do it right.

The meet will probably take place in the early part of 2008, but again this will be up for negotiation among the federation presidents, the athletes in the top 5-7 in each weight class, etc.

I will continue to post when necessary. Please continue to spread the word! The lifters themselves are the key here!

Thank you for all of the constructive criticism and support thus far. I have read every post and will consider every point.

Eric
