squat shoe question

Posted By: Jim Crowley

I am hoping to compete in some USAPL events in the future and I have been reviewing vidio clips of USAPL/IPF lifters to see what is required.
I have noticed that many lifters, especialy those from Eastern Europe, wear weightlifting shoes with heels when they squat. Is this to achieve depth?I was always told this not efficient lifting technique, but it may allow me reach appropriate depth with greater ease. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks
