Speculation can be avoided by communication

What I've found is that sometimes everyone gets all carried away before we really know how the rules are supposed to apply.

The interpretations of the ruling need to have examples for specific situations and behavior.

Does spotting and loading at another fed meet count as "participation"? Will the USAPL interpret it that way? Will the IPF?

Same for refereeing, promoting, coaching, etc.

Will it be a prerequisite to USAPL membership to remain drug free for three years and "other federation free" for 1 year? If the USAPL doesn't enforce it this tight in the US will our lifter be subject to a different interpretation when competing internationally? You can see the problems with this one, especially if someone is motivated to remove a specific lifter from international competition. Competitor, alternate looking to move up, sworn blood enemy for life, etc etc.

What if someone lifts in another federation because they can't lift here but want to ref, spot, load, and promote USAPL events? Will they be allowed to do so?

There's lots of questions and 100 different scenarios. I think a position paper is worthwhile with specific examples. Your example is a good one, mine is another but I think we're just background noise.

The real issue is the lifters. Is the true intention to keep the lifters lifting strictly in the USAPL and IPF? Is this consistent with how IOC athletes are treated? I honestly have no clue but I know that many do non sanctioned and pro type events, especially the track guys but others as well.

I don't really have a problem with it if that's how the IPF sees fit to vote, but I do think it will damage the level of USAPL competition and the grassroots numbers. If it's not enforced at the local level it will open up the entire organization to potential discrimination lawsuits because of inconsistent/selective enforcement.

So I guess I'm just curious to hear what the higher up's have to say about it.

Maybe I'll give Lance a call.
