Trying to get started, very lost.

I've gotten a personal trainer who used to be a power lifting coach to prescribe me a regimen, but I don't think it's really going to be enough. What I'd really like to get out of this post is maybe a penpal who's seasoned in the sport and wouldn't mind exchanging emails helping me prepare myself and how to get involved with being competitive. Any and all responses welcome, I'm almost entirely naive to the sport and want to learn as much as possible! Thanks.
