The IPF was sued under the Clayton Act. I don't know if the IPF consulted a lawyer or not about their chances of wining but if they did, a good lawyer would advice them of their chances. I agree with you that it is not a good idea to waste a lot of money if your chances are poor. Also it was probably impossible to predict back then how long this ruling would prevent the IPF from holding meets in the USA. But they would be foolish to let another case develop along the same lines at the present time.
