In Response To: running and powerlifting (Doug Heeren)

I have found that running 10 miles (7-8 minutes per mile) per week does not seem to have a huge effect on my strength. I do two 5-mile runs per week (average heart rate is 180 bpm) and space them so as not to overlap with my strength training. Last year I was running 20 miles per week and it did have a noticeable effect. I have been combining running with lifting for about 6 years. I am the furthest thing from a "natural runner" and it has always been difficult for me. I know my strength would be a little better without the running but the running helps keep my weight down and also allows me to maintain a decent level of cardiovascular fitness.
