Mall meets *LINK*

I had about the same number of lifters back in Nov 87. The Pineridge Mall in Pocatello, Idaho gave me a budget of about $2000 to promote it. I brought up Fred "Dr Squat" Hatfield to do a seminar the night before at local hotel ballroom. Then he guest squatted at the meet in the Mall. This was the year Fred did 1014 in March 87 in Hawaii. I dual sanctioned it ADFPA/USPF. Had a good crowd all day. I would like to try it again. Food court areas are always good. The warmup area I had was down the Mall about 200 ft in a vacant mall space. I did another Mall meet in Bend, Oregon back in Feb 93 with Gus Rethwisch. Had 70 lifters and our warmup room was 20 ft away. Worked out great especially during Winter time in Central Oregon. Might have to try to do another one someday.

We had around 50 lifters.

It was great advertisement for the sport. We held it mid-day on a Saturday as to get the most mall traffic. There were never less than 20 passers-by standing on the outside ropes all day. Hundreds must have seen at least part of a powerlifting meet.

I would suggest it, with one warning there are some logistical problems to work out. Such as, warm-up area, bringing all they equipment, overhead screens, ect. Generally the Mall seemed receptive, it just brings customers for them.
