Model for PL growth

In Response To: soccer, and growth (Larry Maile)

A very good existing model for PL growth is found in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association-THSPA http://www.thspa.org/ and the Texas HS Womens Powerlifting Association-THSWPA http://www.thswpa.com/ These two High School Powerlifting organizations can be a great model for growth in other states as well. In California there are several High schools that run PL meets that have been successful. One of those is the Kern County HS PL meet in Bakersfield that was started in 2002. It has grown to include around 12 high schools and almost 200 high school athletes, mostly football players. There's another long time HS PL meet in Orange County, CA that has been running for close to 25 years now. I think the organizational issue for CA is that we need to create an org like the TX program and get it sanctioned by the Calif HS Athletic Assoc. I would eventually like to set up Regional HS PL meets in the Norcal area-Jason?, Central Cal-Steve, and Southern Cal-Lance? and then have a State HS PL Championship. I've spoken with a few people about this but its difficult to get it off the ground. Its going to take some grassroots effort in each area to get the ball rolling and educate coaches. Once the coaches see the success of the PL program it sells itself. I would like to create a similar HS org like TX and call it the CHSPA. I've spoken with John Inzer and he's willing to provide various amounts of equipment.

Quote from Scott Cartwright: Soccer is like Bench only, everyone can do it.
