Palm Springs - American Open

It's been a terrific weekend out here in Palm Springs for the American Open! There's been some awesome lifting at a great venue, in a gorgeous city with nice weather. Lance Slaughter and his crew worked hard to put on a great event - thanks to Johnny Graham, Jason Burnell, Tony Harris, Jack Marcus, Bill Ennis, Ron Scott, Robert Keller, and many, many others for helping make the competition a smooth-running and safe one for the lifters. Niko Hulslander did an awesome job M.C.'ing, and Angela Simons and Lynette Lopez worked hard running the scoretable.

Congratulations to Mitch Edelstein for winning 1st in the 220 M1 division - he once again demonstrated how to stick with lifts and battle through, no matter what. I also want to thank him for the nice college graduation gift (yeah, it's over!!!) of traveling here to compete, and for all his help with my lifting yesterday! Thanks to Tony Harris for helping and for all the feedback and motivation both days. Many of the lifters and officials were very supportive, and there was great camaraderie here. I'm always thankful to God for my strength, health, and progress as I continue on in this sport with the encouragement of friends and my sponsors.

Palm Springs is a beautiful place to visit, and the Convention Center is a great place to compete. I would encourage anyone to come out for the 2008 Masters Worlds, which will be held right here. I hate to leave and return to the frozen tundra and will be taking lots of pictures tomorrow to add to my collection from today. I also have a very loud video featuring the guy that had a lot of people on the edge of their seats with his last pull the deciding factor between a bomb and 1st place

Thank you very much again to everyone who made this competition a good experience and my mini-vacation to breathtaking Palm Springs a memorable one.
