In Response To: Palm Springs - American Open (Cheryl Anderson)

...got home about 12:30 this morning. Actually managed to get a few hours of shut eye. ..and I figured I'd post some thoughts on the American Open.

Had a good time despite spending the whole weekend spotting and loading. Saw some pretty good lifting and was inspired.

For me the highlights were:

1) Cheryl Anderson scaring the heck out of the platform crew with the pre-lift faces she makes. Nice lifting Cheryl.

2)Priscilla. I've only seen Priscilla lift in person once before and all I can say is Padow, Padam, Badonk. She lifted very well also and set a couple of American Records. Just another day at the office.

3) Got to see Charr Gahagan return to the platform. I'd say that Charr's lifts are at about 95% in the squat and bp and about 90 in the DL. He'll be ready for Nationals.

4) Odd Haugan returned to the platform after a long layoff doing strongman and getting injured. This was great for me because Odd owned the first gym I ever trained at and was the first person I ever saw do reps with 315 in the press behind the neck. I was about 165 lbs in my sweats and heavy shoes and was just blown away. Odd is in his mid 50s now and looks great and lifts very well still. Pulled over 700. We talked about injuries and rehab and I really got a boost just talking to him.

5) Got to hang with Tony Harris a little bit. Always fun.

6) Was verbally abused by Johnny Graham the whole weekend. But that's ok. I do NOT MESS WITH with Johhny Graham. Johnny knows 22 ways to kill a man with a Hershey bar. 27 if it has almonds. You can't mess with that kind of crazy. I just smiled a lot and said, "Yes sir, Mr. Graham, sir. Whatever you say sir."

Johnny was managing the platform and had us cracking up the whole weekend. I almost forgot how tired I was... almost.

7) Niko is huge with a capital HU. Thank goodness he's a happy giant.

Got to see my training partners lift. Mondo got a 500 squat in his first meet. K Buff made some nice lifts after her 1 on 356 off training routine. They did ok..... except Boingy who has saddend us again by leaving a meet without a total. Punishment shall be swift and sure.

9) Angela Did NOT bake cookies. This was not a high point. You see Angela. You see cookies. It was funny to see people walking up to Angela and just asking....."so where are the cookies?:

Just had a good time overall. Stayed at the Hotel Zoso. Very nice. Excellent oatmeal and peffect fritattas. If you like Fritattas give them a try.
