Here are some interesting numbers that I got. These are all based upon the men's open class from IPF worlds:

year total lifters bombouts percentage
96 132 11 8.3
97 105 10 9.5
98 159 16 10
99 141 4 2.8
00 127 15 11.8
01 100 9 9.0
02 128 14 10.9
03 134 16 11.9
04 106 14 13.2
05 117 27 23

The new supershirts were introduced on 2002, gained widespread popularity amoung US lifters 03 and then with internationals lifters in 03/04.

The bombout rate from 96 - 2002 is 8.9%
The bombout rate from 2003 - 2005 is 15.9%
