In Response To: HRT and Master Lifters (Garry Holmen)

That is an issue that is close to me. We had a lifter get a 3 year suspension for taking a med for menopause that has a trace amount of testosterone in it. I think it was called Estro-test.

She had tried other meds but they didn't work for her symptoms. Apparently, this stuff doens't have enough test to turn you into a dude but will show up on a drug test.

I dunno, it just didn't seem right to me for her to have to sit for 3 years for menopause meds. Your health and well-being should come first.

In terms of competing, she didn't stop competing she just stopped competing in USAPL so we basically turned a lifter over to another fed. If she was sprouting 18" arms and a beard and benching triple bodyweight with bacne, I could see it as justified, but she's a 50+ year old 130 lbs mom going through menopause that happened to find powerlifting and liked USAPL.

I suppose that the fear is that someone would abuse whatever exemption there is but this one never has sat right with me.
