Ed,
I agree the the danger factor is a reason for the thumbless grip being disallowed and I doubt it will be changed any time soon but in the last couple of years I think I've seen just as many guys drop bars with the thumbs around grip as with the thumbless grip.

Granted they weren't all at IPF type meets and the extra weight allowed by multi-ply shirts may be a factor but, if I recall correctly, at least a couple of guys had thumbs break on the way down.

Just wondering if you (or anyone else) has seen similar things?
