Part of the reason why there is a list of equipment that is approved is to try to help standardize powerlifting equipment at meets as well to keep bad or worn out equipment off the platform. It's nice when you know what will be used at a meet. That way you can adjust your training to prepare for it. That won't neccessarily give you a big advantage, but it can help. Those are 2 very strong positives for the rule.

I think Shawn Cain's rack and Steve Howard's rack should both be IPF approved.

I've benched 600+ on ER racks many times and that rack has been excellent in my experience. The height seems to be perfect to me. If I have a problem with rocking, it's usually from the handoff. If the bench is wobbly, then the bench may not be attached as firmly as it should be.
