I didn't ask for permission to publicize his/her comments so I won't quote that person but here is what I took from the conversation. I guess you can't count this as official so take it in that vein.

This rule was a compromise. The USAPL will not act as policemen for the IPF in this matter - which means no one is going to go looking through meet results to find out who lifted at what meet.

It's largely unenforceable in the USA. It's a bad (I'll say stupid) idea that can only lead to problems and bad feelings.

The IPF apparently feels that these types of sanctions will cause lifters to stay "loyal."

There are other alternatives to the IPF in some countries and the IPF may feel that this is necessary - the wording and comments on other "world" meets would seem to confirm this.

However, this isn't a good idea. Lifters that think we have too many rules already are going to rebel. Lifters that actually win $$$ in other meets are going to bolt. $$$$ vs medals? I dunno what wins out in the long term.

One thing that isn't clear to me, is the trickle donw effect. While USAPL isn't going to be active in this. at some point someone is going to be hit with a suspension and I'm not sure what happens then. Will the suspended lifter be also suspended from USAPL?
I would have to assume so because Ed Coan's application for membership was rejected because of his suspension by the IPF. In that regard, a precedent has been set. I can only see this eventually ending in a lawsuit at some point down the road.
