No, you have to lift at the national meet that you set the record. Masters to masters and open to open. But you can set a master's american record at any national meet. If you are lifting in the men's open and want to set a masters' american record, you have to break it by 2.5 kilos but if you lift in the masters' nationals you can set a masters' record by 1/2 kilo.

What it all boils down to, "It is the rules"! You can try to get it changed but right now, go by the rules.
