What's the world coming to. I'm in complete agree with you on this one. LOL If you are the only person in your category and you do your best and are near or maybe even beat the records on the books, you have done a good job and you totally deserve recognition and your trophy. Since I returned to lifting several years ago, I have never had another person in my class (Masters 55-60 SHW, and now 60-65 SHW). I have often entered the Open SHW and have often won or placed there but being retired I don't have the luxury of entering more than one category at a time these days. The main reason I choose the Masters Class now is that I can focus on breaking State, Nation, and even set one World's record. My competition is with a name in the records books of a person I most likely don't even know. Sure head to head competition would be more fun, but I try just to to get the most bang out of my buck and time. But even if my entry form say another category than the other SHWs on the platform, unofficially I'm still going head to head with them. The good natured kidding between athletes in different categories no matter what it says on their entry form is whats its all about. Again I could care less about the trophy at the end of the day, it's the fun of meeting new lifters and having fun at the meet, and just walking away knowing I did my best for that day. If I have established a new PR or two, then I'm real happy. I am one of those people who often leaves the meet without picking up a trophy, as they are just dust catchers to me at this point. I will only stick around for the reward ceremony to support and cheer on a fellow team mate or friend. But if are not just going through the motions to get get a easy trophy you have nothing to feel sorry about. If you are breaking your own personal records and pushing or breaking those records on the books, you are a competitor in every meaning to the word. Good lifting!
