I tried benching today with my head on the bench. I found that even benching raw, my head still wants to come up. But the reason my head comes up is because I am looking for the bar to touch. When I keep my head in contact with the bench my eyes can not follow the bar. I don't like this feeling at all. I have no problem with the start, press, rack, as long as the judging is the same from lifter to lifter. But I don't like the head having to be in contact with the bench.

It seems to me that the USAPL comes up with rules to counter gear performance. (I once had a judge during gear check tell me I couldn't lift in boxers, I had to wear tighty-whitys. After I got thru laughing I realized he wasn't laughing, he was serious). If high performance gear is the problem, talk to the gear companies, not the lifter. Coming up with more and more rules doesn't really encourage me to come back and lift some more in the USAPL. I am not trying a feeble attempt to slam the USAPL. I have lifted in the USAPL for years. I just think the lifting on the platform is about the lifter and it should stay that way.
