I'm sure many find being competitive more important to their personal happy factor than enjoyment. Personally I have to have it both ways to be happy. The feeling of more weight in the hands is cause for excitement for most but you're prolly right about competitive being first and foremost. After all this is a competitive sport. I don't know why velcro straps shouldn't be allowed in USAPL and IPF competitions to cut time putting on and taking off pl gear.

But if one is into falling in and out of garbage cans they need the proper falling gear. :o
